Google’s email program, Gmail, is popular because it can be easily and safely accessed through an Internet browser, desktop client and smart phone. Use these methods to access Gmail

Method 1 of 5: Access Gmail Via Web Browser
  1. Start a web browser from your personal computer. 
    For a more secure way to access Gmail on a public computer, skip to method five
  2. Type “gmail.com” or “google.mail.com” into your browser’s address bar.
  3. Wait to be directed to the Google account sign in page. All your Google products can be accessed through your Gmail account login.
  4. Type in your Gmail address and your password. 
    Click “Sign in.” Click the “Keep me signed in” box at the bottom of the Sign in button, if you want to automatically be signed in on your home computer for fast access. Never choose this option on a public computer.
  5. Wait to be directed to your Gmail account. 
    You should see your inbox

Method 2 of 5: Accessing Gmail Through Smart Phones
  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the Settings icon. It is the gear icon with a drop down men
  3. Choose the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab from the options in the Settings menu.
  4. Under IMAP status, click the radio button that says “Enabled.” Save your changes
  5. Turn on your smart phone.
  6. Go to Settings and choose Mail.
  7. Select the option to add a new account. Choose “Gmail” as the type of account.
  8. Fill out information about your account, such as the email username and password. You can also nickname your email, if it is personal or business related. 
  9. Tap “Next” once you are finished. Check to see if the Mail radio button is turned on in your Settings. 
  10. Click on the Mail app to access your Gmail account via IMAP. This is the best way to access Gmail if you need it while you are in transit, or if you don’t have frequent access to a PC.
  • You can complete a similar IMAP process to set up Mail on an iPod or tablet.
